Search for missing climbers suspended

Anchorage, Alaska – The search for four missing Japanese climbers has been suspended. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the National Park Service announced Sunday that the climbers were presumed dead after an avalanche that occurred on Mount McKinley in Alaska possibly pushed them into a deep crevasse.
As noted in the report, Yoshiaki Kato, 64, Masako Suda, 50, Michiko Suzuki 56, and 63-year-old Tamao Suzuki, 63, were among a group of climbers on Motorcycle Hill when the avalanche occurred Wednesday.
Spokeswoman Kris Fister is quoted by the AP as stating of the missing men, “We believe this is their final resting place.”
Fister is further quoted as stating of the area where the climbers went missing, “This is the first time there have been fatalities.”
