This attack took place, when hundreds of Tamil civilians led by Tamil Parliamentarian Mavai Seenathirajah were peacefully protesting Government's attempts to seize Tamil lands.

A day before this attack took place; Sri Lankan Security forces prevented another peaceful rally in Jaffna town, by aggressively prevented civilians from assembling in the town.

It is reported that Tamil Parliamentarians are planning to organize another non-violent rally on June 26th (Tuesday) in Murukandy in the Killinochi District. Large number of Tamil civilians and Parliamentarians are planning to participate in this non-violent action.

To show solidarity with these rallies, Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) is organizing worldwide non-violent rallies on the same day (Tuesday, June 26th), when the next peaceful rally is going to take place inside Sri Lanka.
