Planning A Central Florida Vacation In May? Don't Miss Ironman 70.3 Florida

Ironman 70.3 Florida is one of the year's most popular events for athletes. If you're looking for things to do in Central Florida, don't miss the event on May 20, 2012 at Lake Eva Park, conveniently located near many Central Florida attractions.

/EINPresswire.com/ Polk County, FL -- Ironman 70.3 Florida has a new venue this year. On May 20, 2012, this annual event will take place at Lake Eva Park, in Haines City, Florida. Athletes may remember the competition being held at Walt Disney World Resort in previous years. However, due to park renovations, the event has been moved to beautiful Lake Eva Park.

Ironman has also announced that champion cyclist Lance Armstrong plans to compete in Ironman 70.3 Florida.

Still just minutes from popular Central Florida attractions, Lake Eva Park will challenge participants in new ways. The race starts with a 1.2 mile fresh-water swim that begins and ends on a white sand beach. As athletes leave the water behind and hit the 56-mile bike route, they will enjoy a ride along quiet country roads, past citrus orchards and cattle farms. The route continues along Highway 17, one of Florida's designated scenic highways, and goes right by Bok Tower Gardens, considered by many a "Must See" on the list of things to do in Central Florida. Runners will transition to their 13.1-mile course at Lake Eva Park, running three loops around Lake Eva itself before finishing the race inside the park.

"It's always a challenge to change locations when an event as well-known as Ironman 70.3 Florida moves from a destination like Walt Disney World. The new venue, in Haines City, is just minutes from Disney and all the attractions our competitors enjoy, but has a "Real Florida" feel. The world class route will pose a challenge for all athletes, including seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, who is competing as a member of Team LIVESTRONG. Lance brings a heightened level of awareness to the event and this area," said Mark Jackson, Tourism Director for the Central Florida Visitors and Convention Bureau.

For athletes planning to incorporate the competition into their Central Florida vacation, Lake Eva Park and Haines City offer easy access to all of the major Central Florida attractions including the recently opened LEGOLAND(C) Florida.
