Bachmann to Testify at Oversight Committee Hearing on Medicaid Fraud

Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 25, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) will testify at the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s hearing titled, “Is Government Adequately Protecting Taxpayers from Medicaid Fraud?”

The hearing comes after allegations of serious fraud have emerged within the Minnesota Medicaid program. Bachmann will testify about the need for accountability in a system that spends billions of taxpayer dollars and will preview legislation she is working on titled, “The Medicaid Integrity Act of 2012.”

“When I first heard about possible Medicaid fraud in Minnesota, I was stunned,” stated Bachmann. “I am committed to making sure that accountability and transparency are brought to the Medicaid system. In February, I hosted a press conference at the Minnesota State Capitol about this issue and I’m pleased that my colleagues on the House Oversight Committee and Senate Judiciary Committee are bringing attention to this issue as well.

“Protecting Medicaid dollars from fraud is a not a partisan issue. I believe this hearing will help clarify the need for Congress to establish safeguards that will protect the taxpayers who are depending on us.”

The hearing will occur on April 24 at 9:30 AM EST in 2154 Rayburn House Office Building. Other witnesses include Sen. Chuck Grassley (IA), Dr. David Feinwachs, a Minnesota whistleblower, Lucinda Jesson, Commissioner of the Minn. Department of Human Services, among others. Video of the hearing will be available at http://oversight.house.gov/.
