The Phoenix DUI Attorneys of Alcock and Associates, P.C. recently sponsored the Esperanza High School Soccer team. Esperanza High is a charter school located in North Phoenix. Their student body is composed of at risk adolescents. For many, this was their first opportunity to participate in organized athletics.
DUI attorney Nick Alcock, the owner of Alcock and Associates, paid for the organizational fees and equipment necessary for the team to get on the field. Most of the students come from disadvantaged homes. The parents simply can't afford the costs.
Esperanza's newly minted soccer team lost their first game by a score of 4-1. However, they were not discouraged. Alcock and his DUI Attorneys spent a morning after their loss with the team in a local gym. There, he walked the students through a number of teambuilding exercises that he has developed over the years.
Says attorney Alcock, "I think that it is very important for these students to understand what teamwork really is. I walk them through a number of exercises that demonstrate how working together can be easier and more fun. I want the kids to think as a group, problem solve, and understand leadership. I'm not going to take any of the credit, but I was very happy to see the team win their next three games by blowout margins."
Many of the students he works with live in communities where the kids face a number of threats, from alcohol, drugs and gang activity. As a DUI attorney, he has represented young children who have gotten caught up in the legal system. He states, "It breaks my heart to visit a bright young kid in jail. Most of the time, they wind up there because nobody took the time to try to help and understand them. That's why I am dedicated to working to prevent other children from making the same mistakes."
This isn't the first time that Alcock has gotten involved with local schools. He also sponsors several scholarship awards for local children. He states, "I'm always looking for ways to give back to our community. I recognize that my children have it pretty good. I think that all kids should have the opportunity to participate in sports and be part of a team. It amazes just how expensive it for a child to play organized athletics. I'm glad that we can sponsor the team and get these great students out on the field."
Alcock and Associates is located in Phoenix, Arizona. Over the years, Alcock has donated to a wide variety of causes and charities. Notably, they sponsor medical missions to Nicaragua to repair cleft lips and palates. Locally, he works with the Children's Crisis Nursery, an organization dedicated to helping abandoned and mistreated youth.
