Arroyo Grande, CA — A federal lawsuit claims McDonald’s was a factor that caused a California woman to become a prostitute for two decades, Fox News reports.

The federal lawsuit asserts that Shelley Lynn’s ex-husband, who was also a former manager at an Arroyo Grande McDonald’s location, had “economically and psychologically” coerced Lynn into prostitution.

Lynn was hired at the fast-food chain in 1982 to work behind the counter, where her former boss and ex-husband, Keith Handley, pushed her into prostitution in Nevada. The lawsuit further asserts that Handley also “engaged in pimping operations out of the McDonald’s franchise he owned.”

Lynn maintains that McDonald’s is to blame, because it “does not insure employee policies are in place to protect against unscrupulous and criminal individuals like Handley.”

"It has an active, notorious, and hostile campaign to keep unions out," the complaint reportedly states. "It offers an inferior health care plan and no pension benefits. Most employees are paid minimum wages as was Lynn. There is no affirmative action to encourage women employees and other women to purchase franchises," Fox News reports.

Handley, who still runs a franchise, his company, Ivernia, and McDonald’s USA are all named in the suit.
