In 2011 IBERDROLA provided over 1.2 million hours of training to its employees, a 20% increase on the previous year.  As part of its commitment to ensuring professional excellence among its workforce, last year the company organised 24,514 courses, attended by over 167,000 professionals.

This means that the training reached 87% of the 32,800 professionals the Group employs worldwide, i.e. an average of 38 hours of training per employee in the last year.   In some countries this figure was exceeded, such as in Spain, where 95% of staff received some form of training.

In terms of the subject matter, technical training accounted for 58% of the total, as it is the area that has the most direct application in the Group's daily activities.  This means that the company ensures that the skills of its workforce keep apace with new technologies, such as smart grids and meters.

Prevention, occupational health and safety was the second area in which more hours of training were provided: 215,000, or 17.25% of the total.  Language courses were the third most important area, accounting for 9.14% of training, in response to the Group's multicultural profile, with operations in dozens of countries.

IBERDROLA has also provided training to its staff in other areas, such as computing and information management systems, management skills, quality and environment. Training was provided in the form of face-to-face and online courses.   By providing this training, the company aims to advance the skills of its professionals with a view to achieving qualitative and quantitative improvements in their contribution to the organisation. Training also facilitates career advancement for the company's human resources.

High quality, ongoing training is one of the strategic vectors in the Human Resources policy that the IBERDROLA Group will continue to develop in the coming years, as an essential element in strengthening its employees' chances of promotion and professional development.
