Conservative Groups to Congress: Unaccountable Medicare Treatment-Denial Panel Needs to Go

Today Americans for Prosperity joined 11 fiscally conservative organizations in urging lawmakers to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) that was created under the President's health care law.

In an open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives, the groups explained that this panel of 15 unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats, appointed by the President, takes the wrong approach in its attempt to rein in the out-of-control growth in Medicare costs we've seen in recent years.

In addition to putting Washington in the middle of the doctor-patient relationship, IPAB promises to implement wrong-headed price controls, impede consideration of long-run solutions, and undermine the transparency and accountability that is necessary for sound policymaking.
