IBERDROLA SELECTED AS THE SPANISH COMPANY WITH THE BEST CORPORATE GOVERNANCE PRACTICES

  • According to the prestigious publication 'World Finance', which is holding the sixth edition of its 'Corporate Governance Awards' this year
  • The Chairman of IBERDROLA, Ignacio Galán, highlighted the industrial and financial strength of the Group, which has created value for 400,000 minority and institutional shareholders

IBERDROLA was selected as the Spanish company with the best corporate governance practices, according to the publication World Finance, which is holding the sixth edition of the Corporate Governance Awards this year.

The Chairman of the Group, Ignacio Galán, said that "the industrial and financial strength of IBERDROLA has allowed to generate value for our 400,000 minority and institutional shareholders, increase their profits and maintain a constant payout level: between 55% and 60% in recent years".

By awarding this prize, the institution is acknowledging the company's effort to constantly improve its practices and internal regulations, as well as maximum transparency in the information it provides to the market.

IBERDROLA's Corporate Governance System is based on the articles of association, the Group's basic governance document, which describes the principles according to which the various areas are governed, as well as the company's other internal codes and procedures.  The management of the Group is also decentralised, so that each subsidiary has its own Board of Directors, CEO and audit committees with independent directors.

As well as engaging in regular contact with the market to explain its financial and industrial performance, IBERDROLA has for many years been holding meetings with its shareholders, investors, proxy agents and analysts, with a view to focusing on the development of its corporate governance model.

One of IBERDROLA's essential tools in its commitment to transparency and best practices is this current corporate website.

In this regard, IBERDROLA recently set up “Online Shareholders (OLS)”, an interactive system hosted on the corporate website, which enables shareholders to engage in direct, permanent dialogue with the company.

This tool allows shareholders to make any open or confidential enquiries and look up the FAQs regarding various issues. After the General Meeting has been announced, shareholders may also exercise their rights of information, representation and remote vote, as well as watch the Meeting in a live broadcast.
