Tata Steel British Paratriathlon Championships open for entries in 2012

The 2012 Tata Steel British Paratriathlon Championships, set to take place at the iconic National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham is now open for entries.

The event organised by One Step Beyond is now in its fifth year and will take place alongside the Nottingham Triathlon on 26 May 2012 hosting paratriathletes from around the UK, as they compete for the coveted British Championships.

British Triathlon expects the event to attract its biggest field to date, due to the natural growth of this exciting sport after the successful inclusion in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and the inspiring performances of our elite British paratriathletes at European and World Championships level events.

In 2011, the GE Great Britain Paratriathlon Team delivered four World and European Champions with Steven Judge and Charlotte Ellis both having entered those events as British Champions after victory in front of the grandstands of Nottingham. This year, the event has added importance acting as qualifier for the 2012 ITU Paratriathlon World Championships in Auckland later this year.

In addition to elite paratriathletes racing, the event also aims to drive participation within the sport, and British Triathlon would urge any athletes who are considering joining the paratriathlon community to take up the challenge. British Triathlon will have classifiers on hand the day prior to the event, to ensure all athletes have a disability class before competing.

“As the Corporate Partner of British Triathlon, and having supported the growth and development of paratriathlon since 2006, Tata Steel is delighted to again be supporting the British Paratriathlon Championships for the fifth year running”, commented Sarah Jolley, Communications Manager from Tata Steel.  “Paratriathlon now has world-wide recognition thanks to British Triathlon leading the way with developing and promoting the sport and becoming a Paralympic sport in Rio 2016.  Tata Steel is proud to have contributed to this achievement”.

Jonathon Riall, Paratriathlon Performance Manager at British Triathlon is looking forward to this year’s event commenting: “This year’s event promises to be the most memorable yet, thanks to Tata Steel’s continued support for the fifth successive year. The Tata Steel British Paratriathlon Championships provides a unique opportunity for athletes to come and have a go, and join the growing paratriathlon community, whilst being cheered on by friends and family in Nottingham’s iconic triathlon venue.”
