Letter Thanking Chairmen Upton and Walden for Broadband Spectrum Provisions

Dear Chairmen Upton and Walden:

On behalf of more than 1.9 million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I am writing to thank you for your tireless work on the spectrum provisions that will come to the House floor today as part of the payroll tax holiday bill.

Mobile broadband is a major driver of economic growth, innovation, and job creation, but is threatened by spectrum scarcity. You have successfully negotiated a deal that will make high-quality spectrum available to the private sector to continue the mobile broadband boom, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Specifically, your insistence on the inclusion of language requiring the FCC to run an honest and open auction was a critical free-market victory.

While the payroll tax holiday and unemployment insurance provisions of this bill are inherently short-term, the spectrum provisions will have a significant positive economic impact for years to come.

AFP strongly supports the spectrum provisions and thank you for your leadership on this issue.

Sincerely,

Phil Kerpen
Vice President, Policy
Americans for Prosperity
