QUESTION: What is the State Department’s response to reported plans by Russian police to resubmit for trial a criminal tax evasion case against Sergei Magnitskiy?

ANSWER: Pursuing criminal charges against Sergei Magnitskiy serves no purpose other than to deflect attention away from the circumstances surrounding this tragic case.

We continue to call for Russian authorities to bring those responsible for Mr. Magnitskiy’s death to justice.
