Bachmann Disapproves of President’s Request to Raise Debt Ceiling
Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement after she voted for the resolution which disapproves of President Obama’s request for a $1.2 trillion dollar increase in the nation’s debt limit:
“This past August I voted against the Budget Control Act of 2011 because it was a temporary fix to our nation’s out-of-control spending problem. Unfortunately, the legislation passed, giving President Obama two additional opportunities to increase our country’s debt limit. Now, with the force of law behind him, the President is once again asking for a hike in the debt ceiling by $1.2 trillion dollars. Instead of offering permanent solutions to our spending problem, he is proposing debt increases and tax hikes that the Congressional Budget Office says could result in the loss of more than two million jobs. I cannot stand idly by as the President continues to place the burden of debt on our nation’s next generation.
“That is why I am proud to vote for the disapproval resolution, House Joint Resolution 98. This resolution sends a clear message to the President and many of my Democratic colleagues, that enabling our nation’s spending addiction is not a solution to our debt problem. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to join with the House in providing real solutions for our nation. We have no time to lose; Congress must start reducing our debt instead of increasing it.”
The disapproval resolution passed the House today with a vote of 239-176. To read the full text of the resolution, click here.
