Ithaca (NY) Goes 100% Renewable

The City of Ithaca, New York signed a 2-year power purchase agreement with Integrys Energy Services to purchase 100 percent of the city's electricity consumption from renewable energy sources. Beginning in January 2012, Ithaca will begin purchasing Green-e Energy certified renewable energy credits to match all of its electricity use.

Ithaca has sourced 5 percent of its electricity from wind farms since 2006, and the new 100 percent green power agreement will help the city move towards its 2016 goal to reduce its carbon footprint by 20 percent.
