Oak Park (IL) Offers 100% Green Power Option

The Village of Oak Park, Illinois is initiating a 100% green powered community choice program for its residents and small businesses, which is expected to launch in January 2012. Community choice aggregation enables local governments to aggregate electricity demand within their jurisdictions in order to procure alternative energy supplies while maintaining the existing electricity provider for transmission and distribution services. Oak Park's Village Board approved a two-year contract with Integrys Energy Services to supply 100% renewable energy credits for the program. Customers who enroll in the community choice aggregation program will save about 25 percent compared to the current state-approved electricity rates with ComEd, Oak Park's existing electricity provider.
