The State Department is hosting a series of events in recognition of International Human Rights Day 2011. The events this year are accessible online through the CO.NX portal and the Department’s many social media platforms. On Monday, December 12, the State Department and George Washington University Law School will host “2011: A Banner Year for Human Rights?” Join Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Michael Posner, Legal Advisor Harold Koh, Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Melanne Verveer and George Washington University Law Professor Ralph Steinhardt for a conversation on human rights developments in 2011 at 2:30 pm in the Jacob Burns Moot Courtroom, GW Law School, 2000 H Street, NW. On Tuesday, December 13, Special Representative for International Labor Affairs Barbara Shailor will host “Labor Rights: A Path to Durable Democracy.” Join the conversation online for a discussion about the role of labor rights, decent work and freedom of association in ensuring the development of durable democracies.
