Applications open for WTO Regional Workshop on Trade and Public Health

The workshop, which is organized in collaboration with the secretariats of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), takes a holistic approach to the interlinkages between public health, trade and intellectual property. Its content is multidisciplinary and based on the second edition of the WHO-WIPO-WTO trilateral study entitled “Promoting Access to Medical Technologies and Innovation: Intersections between public health, intellectual property and trade”. The study is available here.

What is the purpose of the workshop?

Over three days, participants will examine the role that multilateral trade agreements play in helping to meet increasingly urgent public health needs. Participants will also engage in targeted practical case studies, as part of which they will examine key policy tools and effectively apply them to deliver public health outcomes. An overview of the draft programme is available here.

Who can sign up?

This workshop is specifically intended for government officials working on trade, intellectual property and public health issues. It will focus on collaboration and coordination between officials working in these three public policy areas.

How to apply?

French-speaking African WTO Members and observers are invited to put forward up to four candidates, who should be capital-based officials employed by different government authorities. Two of these candidates may then be selected to participate.

Detailed information on the application process is available here.
