Yobe adopts measures to combat medical quackery

The Yobe state government has implemented proactive regulations and monitoring mechanisms to combat medical quackery to enhance the quality of healthcare service delivery in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Health Related Facility Inspection and Monitoring Agency, Dr. Yusuf Ngamdu, stated this at a sensitization exercise on the regulation of healthcare and health related facilities in the state organized by the agency in collaboration with an NG, lafiya-UK Support for Health in Nigeria
He explained that the agency, was established by the current administration with the mandate to monitor all public and private health facilities, as well as the activities of traditional medicine vendors across the state.
Dr Ngamdu appreciated the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni and the State House of Assembly, for passing and assenting to the bill that established the Agency, as well underscoring the role of some Non Governmental Organizations like UNICEF, WHO, Lafiya UK, Heron Consortium, Save The Children, Action Against Hunger and Plan International who contributed for its take off.
He said the agency is the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria and second in the country after Lagos State, and some responsibilities of the agency include; Eliminating Quackery, Ensuring Quality and Standard Health Services Delivery, Registration and Monitoring of all Public and Private Health Facilities across the State.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Muhammad Gana who congratulated the State for been at the fore front in terms of universal health coverage in the country, emphasized on the need to collaborate with traditional and religious leaders for better results
The Emir of Fika and Chairman Yobe State Council of Traditional Chiefs Alh. Dr Mohammad Idrisa Ibn Abali Mohammad represented by Alh Adamu Ba’abba, applauded the efforts of Governor Mai Mala Buni for establishing Health related agencies s for a better service delivery.
