Dump Truck, SUV Head-On Crash Kills 1 in Manassas

Manassas, VA — A head-on collision between a dump truck and a SUV left a Loudon County man dead Tuesday afternoon, November 15, 2011. The fatal traffic accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Lee Highway near Sudley Road in Manassas, reported the Washington Post.
Police reported that the dump truck was headed south on the highway when it crossed over into the northbound lanes of traffic, and hit the rear panel of another truck. The dump truck driver, a 65-year-old Alexandria man, then overcorrected into the southbound lanes and swerved back into the northbound lanes, where it hit the SUV head-on.
The driver of the SUV, Daniel S. Tulk, 40, of South Riding, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency crews.
The truck that was hit by the dump truck first was transporting four people at the time of the crash. Only the driver sustained minor injuries in the wreck.
It is unknown if the driver of the dump truck was injured.
Police are looking into whether alcohol or speed were factors in the fatal crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
