Avi Lasarow Appointed South African Honorary Consul of the Midlands

/EINPresswire.com/ The South African High Commission in London is pleased to announce the appointment of Avi Lasarow as the Honorary Consul for the Republic of South Africa to the Midlands region.

Avi, who is one of South Africa's leading international entrepreneurs, will be responsible for promoting investment, business flows, tourism and broader relations between South Africa and the Midlands, and developing cross cultural fertilisation between the two countries.

One of Avi's first initiatives as Honorary Consul of the Midlands was laying a wreath at Birmingham's Centenary Square Remembrance Day service, 13 November, in memory of the 25 South African pilots who flew in the Battle of Britain, and the hundreds of South Africans who flew for the cause of freedom in World War Two. Avi was joined by Ms. Cathy Moruke, First Secretary (Political) of the South African High Commission in London.

Born in Johannesburg, in 1976, Avi Lasarow has worked internationally in IT and biotechnology, and, in 2005 set-up Trimega Laboratories, a world-leading, Manchester-based forensic science company for testing hair for evidence of alcohol and drug abuse, primarily for additional evidence for child custody court cases. Trimega employs 58 people, in Manchester, Cape Town and Germany, and has long-standing interests in and commitments to the Midlands.

Zola Skweyiya, High Commissioner for South Africa to the UK, said: "We are delighted that Avi agreed to accept our offer to become the Honorary Consul of the Midlands. He is one of the leading South African entrepreneurs of his generation. He has made a huge contribution with Trimega and by building relations between the UK and South Africa more broadly, and I look forward to seeing the output of his work as Honorary Consul."

Avi Lasarow, Honorary Consul of the Midlands, for the Republic of South Africa, said: "The South African High Commission in London has always been extremely supportive of my work, and I am honoured to now have the opportunity to help foster links between the Midlands and South Africa. I am very excited about what can be achieved; I have ambitious plans, and I have already developed a full schedule of initiatives for the next year."

In 2011, Avi was invited by the National Association of Child Contact Centres to be a Trustee on a national basis with focus on Midlands and the north-west England. Under his leadership, Trimega is a member of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, and sponsors the Birmingham Law Society and the Leicestershire Law Society 2011.

Avi will be launching a full interactive website soon at www.honconsul.za.com. He can be contacted at: avi@honconsul.za.com.
