IBERDROLA HOLDS ROAD SAFETY DAY AS PART OF ITS RISK PREVENTION PLEDGE

  • The Occupational Risk Prevention Policy is one of the cornerstones of the Human Resources department
  • Attending the event were Pere Navarro, Director General of Traffic, Antonio Albacete, three-times European Truck Racing champion and Ramón Castresana, Head of Human Resources
  • Between 2009 and 2011, more than 3,700 employees have attended road safety courses as part of the company’s strong commitment to safety standards in the workplace

This morning the company held its Road Safety at IBERDROLA Day: current strategies, expected results at its Madrid headquarters. This initiative is part of the company’s strong commitment to workplace safety and occupational risk prevention.

The event was closed by Ramón Castresana, Head of Human Resources and Pere Navarro, Director General of Traffic and was also attended by Luis Montoro, professor of Road Safety at the University of Valencia and Antonio Albacete, three-times European Truck Racing champion.

In his speech, Mr. Castresana noted that “caring for its staff is part of IBERDROLA’s corporate culture and strategy. In this regard, over 150,000 hours of training are spent each year on occupational risk prevention”.

For his part, Mr. Navarro stressed that “road safety at companies is an investment, not an expense. Road safety must form part of a corporate culture and large companies need to incorporate these best practices”.

Since 2009, IBERDROLA has trained over 3,700 employees in road safety issues to raise awareness of the risks involved when they are out on the road.

The company also offers ongoing virtual and onsite training and has introduced a personalised advisory service, with 300 employees benefitting from advice from monitors during practical reviews of their driving skills.

As part of the virtual training programme, during the summer IBERDROLA sent out 12 road safety surveys to employees to ascertain potential strengths and weaknesses. Over 7,000 employees took part.

These activities are complemented by other initiatives, such as the ongoing improvement of safety equipment and conditions of the vehicle fleet, the creation of a specific group focusing on this area, shuttle buses for staff at its main work centres, special driving courses for 4x4 vehicles and the publication of information leaflets on increased risks during peak travel times, such as the summer holidays.

In this regard, IBERDROLA is now a signatory to the European Road Safety Charter whereby it pledges to train all its workforce within five years.
