NEC Starts Shipment of LTE Base Stations for KDDI
Oct 7, 2011 (PRN): NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced the beginning of LTE base station shipments for KDDI Corporation (KDDI; President: Takashi Tanaka) in preparation for KDDI's new commercial LTE service that is scheduled to launch in December 2012.
These highly efficient LTE based stations, produced by NEC Network Products Ltd., feature the latest technologies, including Self Organizing Networks (SON), which optimize networks autonomously and provide high communication quality among a wide variety of base stations with different frequency levels.
NEC was selected as a development and manufacturing vender for KDDI's LTE base stations in August 2009. These LTE base stations successfully underwent field trials under the same conditions and frequencies* in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture and Huge City, Miyazaki Prefecture.
Due to the recent spread of smart phones and tablet terminals in Japan, NEC anticipates greater investment in LTE related business. Looking forward, NEC will continue to provide and support next generation communication systems.
* Frequencies: 1.5GHz and 800MHz
