Waterproof and slim mobile phone with high-definition OLED display and WiMAX TM compatibility

Kyocera Corporation (President: Tetsuo Kuba) announced the release of the DIGNO ® (ISW11K) for the au network, the company’s first smartphone to be launched in the Japanese market. DIGNO ® employs a high-definition OLED “Luminous Display” as its screen, is waterproof *1 , and also has built-in WiMAX compatibility. The DIGNO ® also features existing mobile phone functions such as the Osaifu-Keitai ® electronic payment system and One-Seg television tuner while still being only approximately 8.7mm thick. The DIGNO ® , available in three color variations, is part of KDDI Corporation’s new handset lineup announced on September 26.

This product employs a large-sized OLED “Luminous Display” that is easier to operate and read, so that users can enjoy a richer visual experience. The display reproduces vibrant colors in high definition, as well as provides excellent expression of videos, and a wide viewing range. The DIGNO ® is compatible with WiMAX high-speed Internet service with speeds of up to 40 Mbps (down) and 10 Mbps (up) *2 , enabling fast downloads of videos and music. The new product also features a tethering function to connect multiple Wi-Fi ® compatible devices, and wireless broadband compatibility. Furthermore, the DIGNO ® answers the demand for an all-in-one style smartphone by reflecting feedback from the market for the incorporation of existing feature phone functions into a smartphone, such as Osaifu Keitai ® , One-Seg service compatibility, infrared communication, waterproof properties, and Global Passport (GSM/CDMA).
The wide range of functions are packed into a user-friendly slim body, with a thickness of approximately 8.7 mm, which combines design and functionality through Kyocera’s proprietary thin profile technology, accumulated through Kyocera’s experience in developing mobile phone components.
