IBERDROLA has organised 'Parenting Classes', a pioneering initiative in Spanish business that is part of its commitment to reconciling family life and work.
This programme aims to facilitate relations between parents, children and the company, in order to promote a responsible attitude to the work-life balance. The first activity organised by the company is a series of conferences to be held in the coming weeks at its offices in Madrid, Bilbao and Valencia.
These talks, which will be given by behavioural psychologists, will attempt to help parents find the answers to the challenges faced in the various age-brackets of their children: 0-6, 6-12 and teenagers.
This is the first stage in the IBERDROLA Parenting Classes, which will include new monographic activities over the coming months, in response to needs posed by the Group's employees.
This initiative completes IBERDROLA's firm commitment to families and to the work-life balance.
The company has already implemented pioneering measures in the Spanish business sector, such as implementing an intensive working day for 9,000 workers, offering a reduction in working hours for those with legal guardianship until a child reaches the age of 12 - compared to age 8 in the standing legislation - and the possibility of reducing working hours to five hours per day with no reduction in the fixed salary amount until a baby turns one.
The company also offers workers the option of taking paid leave for 15 calendar days before the expected date of delivery or of extending the length of time a job may be held to three years if workers go on leave to care for a child or a relative up to the second degree. Workers are also entitled to professional training.
By implementing these measures, IBERDROLA continues to reinforce its commitment to professional excellence and to the quality of life of its employees. According to in-house surveys conducted by the company, almost 90% of professionals are very appreciative of the Group's measures as regards the work-life balance.
IBERDROLA became the first company in its sector to obtain certification as a Family-Responsible Company (Spanish acronym: EFR) from the Fundación + Familia in 2006. This certificate was recently renewed.
