U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Land-Based Wind Energy Guidelines

Date: 9/13/2011

On September 13, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (the Service) released its revised land-based wind energy guidelines (differences from the agency's July 12 version are highlighted in grey). The agency has been developing this document for years, first releasing interim guidelines for land-based wind energy facilities in July 2003. After a public comments review, the Secretary of the Interior established a Federal Advisory Committee to provide recommendations to revise the guidelines. In March 2007, the Service announced the establishment of the Wind Turbine Guidelines Advisory Committee, which submitted its final recommendations to the Secretary on March 4, 2010. The Service used the recommendations to develop the new draft, which now includes stakeholder comments.
