Ronald Hickman, a four-time Case Western Reserve University alumnus and an associate professor and associate dean for research at Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, assumed the role of editor-in-chief of the academic journal Applied Nursing Research (ANR) in January.
Joyce J. Fitzpatrick, the Elizabeth Brooks Ford Professor at the School of Nursing and founding editor-in-chief of ANR, selected Hickman as her successor.
“Dr. Hickman has the requisite knowledge and skills to advance the journal, and to attract key authors and editorial board members,” Fitzpatrick said. She commended his reputation as a respected nurse scientist as a benefit to his leadership of ANR.
Prior to taking on the role of editor-in-chief, Hickman served as associate editor of ANR for the past three years.
In his leadership role, he plans to maintain the journal’s focus on bridging the gap between nursing research and practice, but aims to expand its practical applications outside of nursing in North America. He also strives to enhance diversity among editorial board members by giving nursing practitioners a voice at ANR, in addition to researchers.
