Dan Flannery, director of the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, discussed the necessity of developing an action plan to eradicate gun violence in an article published in Keeping Students Safe and Helping Them Thrive, an educational handbook. 

In his article, “The Scientific Evidence Supporting an Eight-Point Public Health-Oriented Action Plan to Prevent Gun Violence,” Flannery argued that U.S. policymakers must shift their mindset from preventative to proactive in order to keep students safe. Flannery also emphasizes the detrimental effects of developing public safety protocol that is influenced by partisan politics.
