Dental medicine researchers pen paper that garners award

A paper written by Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine researchers was recently selected for the 2022 David L. Turpin Award for Evidence-based Research from the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJO-DO).

Titled “Pharyngeal airway dimensional changes after orthodontic treatment with premolar extractions: A systematic review with meta-analysis,” the paper’s authors were:

  • Noha Orabi, a resident in orthodontics;
  • Tarek ElShebiny, visiting assistant professor of orthodontics; and 
  • Juan Martin Palomo, professor and director of the orthodontics program.

Additionally, Carlos Flores-Mir from the University of Alberta in Canada and Sherif Elkordy from Newgiza University in Egypt were authors on the paper.

The Turpin Award is given annually to the highest-rated systematic review published in the AJO-DO during the previous year.
