The Unadilla MX National at Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin, NY, hosted round nine of the 2011 AMA Motocross Championship this weekend, and the Honda Red Riders raced to podium finishes on their Honda CRF250R and CRF450R race machines.

Justin Barcia made his debut in the 450 class one to remember by putting in two impressive rides aboard his American Honda Racing-prepared CRF450R, finishing third overall. As the sole rider for the factory Honda team, Barcia got his campaign off to a stellar start, grabbing the holeshot in moto one and taking the lead early on. Barcia led the race for six laps before relinquishing a spot on lap seven, and another on lap 15, to eventually finish the moto a solid third. In the second moto, Barcia again got a great start and was among the front runners from the get-go, moving into second spot on lap four. Fending off more experienced 450 class competitors, Barcia maintained the runner-up spot for the following 13 laps until he crashed on the final lap.Yielding a spot in the fall, Barcia quickly got going again and went on to finish the race in third place.

"I'm really happy with my performance at my first 450-class Motocross event," said Barcia. "I can't thank Honda enough for giving me this opportunity and GEICO Honda for allowing me to have a go at racing the 450 class. The Honda CRF450R was awesome to race and I had so much fun. I haven't had a lot of time on the new bike, but I love the speed and power it delivers and I had an absolute blast on it. From here, I will go home and keep practicing on my Honda CRF450R before heading to Southwick at the end on the month."

TwoTwo Motorsports' Chad Reed didn't have as strong a weekend as he would have liked, finishing just shy of the overall podium in fourth place. Getting lackluster starts in both motos, Reed was forced to race two come-from behind motos. In moto one, Reed led a hard charge from ninth to make his way up to fourth by race's end. In the second moto he went from eighth at the start of the moto to finish in fifth spot for fourth overall for the round. Reed maintains third position in the championship after nine rounds, and is 25 points behind the championship leader.

In the 250 class, GEICO Honda's Eli Tomac had one of his strongest weekends of racing this season, going 5-2 for third overall. Justin Bogle made his professional racing debut with the GEICO Honda team at Unadilla and he put in a commendable performance aboard his Honda CRF250R, going 6-6 for fifth overall. Unfortunately, GEICO Honda teammate Wil Hahn crashed hard in the first moto and was forced to sit out moto two. Honda rider Alex Martin had a strong showing with a ninth overall, while Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda's Cole Seely rounded out 10th position (9-11).
