Speaking Your Truth Anthology Commemorates 40-Year Anniversary of Women's Equality Day

Women's equality and empowerment is a passion for Lisa Shultz. As a single-mother of two, a business owner, and a leader within the community, Shultz has made it her mission to connect and empower women. And that's exactly what she's doing with her latest book, Speaking Your Truth: Courageous Stories from Inspiring Women.

"When you think back to how far we have come with women's rights in this country, we realize how lucky we are to be able to use our voice, stand up for what we believe in, and juggle career, kids, and anything else that we desire," says Shultz.

This month marks two very important dates in women's U.S. history. First, Congress recognized August 26th as Women's Equality Day in 1971. A date that honored the August 1920 Amendment, which added to the Constitution, stating that all women had the right and responsibilities of citizenship, including the right to vote.

Today, 43 women are celebrated in the anthology Speaking Your Truth, a book of short stories that captures the defining moments of women across the globe. Speaking Your Truth was created by Lisa Shultz and Andrea Costantine, both Denver-based entrepreneurs.

"It's an honor to be a part of something like this," says Costantine. "Thinking back to where we've come from, I've always had great respect for the women who paved the way before us. Now, I think about how we are paving the way for the generations to come. We can only imagine where women and equality will be in another 40 or 90 years."

Shultz and Costantine hope to inspire more women to come forward and speak their own truths with this new anthology. They say a part of that is simply getting women to have real and authentic conversations and connections with one another. "The reality is, many women are still finding their way in a masculine world, it's stories like these that help women find their voice and their place in society," continues Costantine.

The book release is on Tuesday, August 9th on Amazon. The first volume of Speaking Your Truth was released in August 2010 and reached #3 in the self-help/motivational category, #19 in new releases overall, and #1 in the movers and shakers category over a twenty-four hour period. The book launch celebration will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at Cork House Wine on Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado.
