UCS Names Angela L. Anderson Director of Climate And Energy Program
WASHINGTON (July 11, 2011)—Angela Ledford Anderson joined the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) today as the organization’s Climate and Energy Program director. She left her post as program director for the U.S. Climate Action Network to take the job. She will work out of UCS’s Washington office.
“Angela is a thoughtful leader intent on developing and advocating effective, science-based climate and energy solutions,” said UCS Executive Director Kathleen Rest. “She is passionate, energetic, and widely acknowledged for her interpersonal and communication skills, as well as her ability to effectively manage complex processes, groups and coalitions. We are delighted that Angela will be joining us.”
Anderson has been working on climate and energy issues for more than a decade. Before her stint with the U.S. Climate Action Network, she directed the International Global Warming program at the Pew Environment Group, and served as vice president for climate programs at the National Environmental Trust, which later merged with Pew. Previous to those positions, Anderson spent seven years as the director of the Clear the Air Campaign.
“It will be great to have Angela at UCS,” said Alden Meyer, UCS’s director of strategy and policy. “I’ve worked closely with her over the years, and know she’ll help our climate and energy team craft and implement effective campaign strategies on these issues.”
Anderson said she is “honored and excited” to join UCS. “It’s a great organization,” she said. “I’ve long admired UCS for its ability to combine independent science and practical solutions with compelling communications and persuasive advocacy.”
The Union of Concerned Scientists is the leading U.S. science-based nonprofit organization working for a healthy environment and a safer world. Founded in 1969, UCS is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and also has offices in Berkeley, Chicago and Washington, D.C.
