PotashCorp Community Challenge Raises $215,464 for Flood Relief

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) has helped local radio broadcasters News Talk CJME and CKOM raise $511,741 for the Red Cross Saskatchewan Flood Response. PotashCorp’s matching gift challenge and the final results were announced live on-air in the final hours of the 12-hour radio marathon yesterday.

"PotashCorp has made significant commitments to relief efforts around the world but these floods have hit close to home," said PotashCorp President & CEO Bill Doyle. "We are pleased that so many called to pledge support and help the Red Cross bring comfort and supplies to our neighbours in flood-affected areas across Saskatchewan."

PotashCorp matched each dollar pledged through the radio marathon from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. With community pledges of $107,732, and PotashCorp’s dollar-for-dollar match, a total of $215,464 was raised through the company’s matching gift challenge.

Through similar matching gift challenges, PotashCorp has helped to energize fundraising efforts for the Humboldt Hospital, Lanigan and District Medical Clinic, Saskatoon Friendship Inn and Telemiracle 35.

“PotashCorp’s matching gift challenges have proven very successful in the past which is a testament to the spirit and generosity of Saskatchewan people,” said Rhonda Speiss, Manager of Corporate Philanthropy. “We are pleased to partner with Rawlco Radio, and the people of our home province, to help out those who are affected by the flooding.”

Last year, PotashCorp invested $17.4 million through community donations and sponsorships, $10.5 million of which went to projects, events and causes across Saskatchewan.

Headquartered in Saskatoon, PotashCorp is the world’s largest fertilizer company by capacity, producing the three primary crop nutrients – potash, phosphate and nitrogen. With five potash operations in Saskatchewan, and one in New Brunswick, it is responsible for about 20 percent of global capacity and is the world’s leading potash producer. Its operations and business interests span seven countries, making PotashCorp an international enterprise and a key player in meeting the growing challenge of feeding the world.
