HIV Curative Strategies: Dream or Future of HIV Research?

A scientific paper has just been published to summarize current research towards HIV cure and draw a roadmap for coming years.

/EINPresswire.com/ Toulon, France--June 20, 2011--Dr. Alain Lafeuillade, MD, PhD, is pleased to announce the publication of his latest paper, entitled "Potential Strategies for an HIV Infection Cure". In the paper, Dr. Lafeuillade states, "An HIV cure will require innovative scientific research, funding, commitment, and a multidisciplinary approach." He is issuing a call to form an HIV cure task force: the dream team of HIV research.

It is this doctor's belief that it is necessary to establish an HIV task force composed of basic scientists, clinicians, immunologists, virologists, pharmaceutical companies, and various funding agencies if there is ever to be any hope of successfully finding a cure for this terrible disease. His findings show that HIV continues to persist in reservoirs and sanctuary sites despite the use of long term antiretroviral therapy and viral suppression. It is believed that, despite the fact that complete eradication of the virus is out of reach at the moment, the possibility exists to find a "functional" cure for the disease in which there is no progression of the disease in infected patients, the virus is no longer transmitted from one individual to another, and those with the infection have a life expectancy that is close to that of those without infection, in the absence of ART.

For more information about why an HIV task force is needed in order to achieve a cure, interested parties are encouraged to read the rest of this paper:
