WindMade Label Standard Open for Public Comment
The proposed standard requires that companies purchase a minimum of 25 percent wind power. Eligible methods for sourcing renewable energy include:
- Owning a power generation facility has been acquired less than 2 years from the commission date of the facility,
- Having a power purchase agreement for the electricity and renewable energy certificates (RECs) from a generation facility, with a contract signed prior to the commission date of the facility for a minimum term of 5 years, or
- Purchasing RECs from a program approved by the WindMade Technical Committee.
WindMade is also considering allowing the procurement of RECs outside of the WindMade approve programs that are accompanied by a donation of a minimum 10 EUR/MWh, with the exact monetary amount to be determined. The donation would be collected into a WindMade fund that would invest in new wind generation facilities.
