For the sixth consecutive year, Honda will power the full 33-car starting field in Sunday's Indianapolis 500, the 100th anniversary running of the Memorial Day classic.

Honda has supplied racing engines to the full 33-car Indianapolis 500 field every year since 2006, and for a record five consecutive years – and the only five times in Indianapolis 500 history – there has not been a single engine failure in the '500'.

Honda has been a fixture in North American open-wheel racing since 1994, and has played an active role in the growth of the IZOD IndyCar Series – as both a Manufacturers' Championship competitor and single engine supplier – since joining the series in 2003.

The company scored its first Indianapolis 500 victory in 2004 with Buddy Rice; earned Manufacturers' Championships in 2004 and '05; and became engine supplier to the entire IZOD IndyCar Series in 2006.  Other "500" champions using Honda Indy V-8 power include Dan Wheldon (2005); Sam Hornish Jr., (2006); Dario Franchitti (2007, 2010); Scott Dixon (2008) and Helio Castroneves (2009).

Honda is developing an all-new turbocharged V-6 engine for use in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series, when manufacturer competition returns to IndyCar racing.  Designed at Honda Performance Development's Santa Clarita, California, facility, the all-new, 2.2-liter engine is now under development, with initial track testing scheduled to begin in August.
