Japanese Foundation Thanks AJC for Donation Supporting Earthquake Relief

May 16, 2011 – Tokyo – AJC has donated $50,000 to the Nippon Foundation to support its efforts in helping the survivors of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan two months ago.

“All of us at the Foundation are deeply grateful to you and your colleagues at AJC for your kindest support for our activities for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami,” said Tatsuya Tanami, Nippon Foundation executive director. “The funds will be used effectively for the people and communities that are waiting for help.”

The donation was formally presented to the Foundation when an AJC senior leadership delegation, led by Gary Jacobs, chair of the AJC Asia Pacific Institute, met today with Nippon Foundation leaders during a visit to Tokyo. The Japan visit was the first leg on an AJC mission to the region, one of many over the past 20 years.

“The Japanese people are resilient, but Japan’s recovery is long-term,” said Jacobs. “We hope our support from the United States will aid the Nippon Foundation in its essential recovery work.”

The Nippon Foundation is a non-profit philanthropic organization founded in 1962 to support domestic development in Japan, and is currently providing immediate and long-term assistance to help the recent disaster victims.
