Physician Assistant Career Portal Launched - New Physician Assistant Interview Series Planned

If you're looking for a new career in the healthcare field, you're in the right area when it comes to looking at a physician assistant career. A new portal designed to bring together personal interviews, salary information and everyhing related to a physician assistant's career.

May 11, 2011--As with many other expansions in the healthcare industry, the physician assistant is no exception. Thankfully, there now is a new online resource that outlines the basics of a physician assistant career.

Physician Assistant Career was just launched in April of this year. It is a website dedicated to reducing redundancy and giving serious students of the physician assistant career real information about the profession of their choice. With the recent launch, information is being uploaded frequently and soon Physician Assistant Career will offer an Interview Series and a forum on Physician Assistant (PA) shadowing and study.

According to the American Academy of Physician Assistants, physician assistants are health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. A physician assistant career includes a "range of medical duties, from basic primary care to high-technology specialty procedures."

According to The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau, the forecast for physician assistant job openings is expected to increase 27 percent from 2006 to 2016- which is much faster than the average for all occupations. According to Physician Assistant Career, physician assistants will be needed in the ever-expanding healthcare industry as Baby Boomers continue to need access to quality healthcare. Other factors for the expected increase in physician assistant careers also include concerns for cost containment, and newly-implemented restrictions that shorten resident doctors' (student doctor) work hours.

A physician assistant salary can be rewarding and quite lucrative. According to Money Magazine the physician assistant career profession was ranked the second best job in the United States; and according to the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the mean total income for PAs working at least 32 hours per week was $89,967 and PAs working in dermatology, emergency medicine and surgical subspecialties were earning $100,000-$200,000 per year.

Now that you know the rewards of a physician assistant career, you're probably asking yourself: what does it take to become a PA, besides advanced study? The answer depends on the licensing practices of each state. Regardless, a physician assistant must be attached to a physician as their supervisor and in all states the supervising physician must be licensed in the same state as where the PA is working. This doesn't mean that the PA can't live across the border in a neighboring state however.

Finally, if you want to pursue a career as a physician assistant, you will need to complete an educational training program, take an examination and obtain a license. A good foundation to this process includes a pre-med degree or some health-related work experience.
