Starbucks Response and Relief Efforts to Severe Weather in the Southern States of the U.S.
The effects of the widespread devastation from last week’s severe storms in the southern U.S. continues to be realized and our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones and homes.
We are thankful to report that all Starbucks partners (employees) are safe and accounted for. The store in Birmingham, Alabama, closed due to the severe weather, reopened yesterday, and one store in Tuscaloosa store will remain closed for about a month. All other stores in the affected areas are open and serving customers in their communities.
To assist in immediate efforts in communities impacted by the storms as well as efforts in the future, the Starbucks Foundation announced today a $250,000 donation to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Additionally, Starbucks partners can contribute directly to the Red Cross or other emergency relief organizations and Starbucks will match those donations.
Throughout the week, we have heard amazing stories about how our partners and customers have responded to this disaster, providing support to their neighbors and their communities. Pastries and bottled water from closed stores was rerouted to nearby emergency shelters, partners volunteered in clean-up efforts in dozens of locations, and, our stores provided a welcoming place for people to gather during difficult times. We are thankful to all of our partners as they continue to support customers and fellow partners as these communities begin to recover and rebuild.
