Atlanta Community Leaders Honored by Television Station with Outstanding Service Award
Each year for the last 36 years, the 11Alive Community Service Awards (CSA) has honored 11 outstanding local volunteers who have demonstrated selfless devotion for the betterment of the community.
Atlanta, GA--May 2, 2011--
The CSA Awards dinner was held on April 19, 2011 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, Downtown Atlanta where the achievements of remarkable community volunteers was recognized. 11Alive News Anchors Brenda Wood and Ted Hall hosted the prime time event. It was televised on April 23rd and 24th, 2011 on WXIA-TV, 11Alive and WATL-TV, myAtlTV. The dinner proceeds benefitted Emory University's Alzheimer's disease Research Center (ADRC).
The Dukes Foundation mentors at risk young men and hosts special classes on Saturdays and Sundays. This helps the students in preparing for their writing test. It fosters a better understanding of effective writing and expression. The Weekend Academy is conducted by mentors from The Dukes Foundation and the Physics Department of Morehouse College. By incorporating formula-based writing techniques utilized by successful college students, The Dukes Foundation has developed a method sound enough to be used by middle school and high school students to increase comprehension. "The results are a remarkable advancement over the previous year," remarked the principal of one of the schools where some of the mentees attend. He has expressed his gratitude for the support of The Dukes Foundation and the positive impact of this program.
Now embarking on an expansion, The Dukes Foundation is seeking to reach additional young men through the establishment of an E-Mentoring Program and an Institute for Mentoring and Career Development. This announcement was made by Micki Esposito, Chief Development Officer of The Dukes Foundation.
THE DUKES FOUNDATION (CORPORATION), is an accredited 501 (3) Non Profit Service Organization that offers an effective mentoring program on a regular basis through support obtained from Professional, Business and Civic Organizations. Their mentoring program includes Academic Coaching, Career Development Workshops, Wellness Sessions, Cultural Exposure Tours and Motivational Exercises that have contributed to the transformation of many lives. Bearing the acronym, D.U.K.E.S, Developing Urban Kids with Etiquette and Self-Esteem, DUKES FOUNDATION remain committed to using mentoring to elevate social conditions and reduce the level of violence committed by teens.
