Three decades after the start of the pandemic, HIV still infects daily 7,000 new individuals and kills 2,000 each year. The virus chronically infects more than 33 million people worldwide, with important discrepancies in access to care.

Not only traditional prevention approaches have failed, but also many patients are left undiagnosed. The Organizing Committee is especially committed to highlighting issues of public health and human rights during the 2012 HIV AIDS conference.
Sessions will focus on the latest issues in HIV science, policy, and practice. They will also seek to share key research findings as well as identify gaps in knowledge in the search for a cure.
