Full Tilt Poker Shutdown Reversal Comes with Mixed Reactions from Gamblers

The Full Tilt Poker website may be back up and running on April 21st, 2011, but it is still not available to players inside the United States.

The Full Tilt Poker domain was released by the Federal Government on Thursday, April 21st, 2011 with an agreement in place that stated the website would not longer allow US customers to gamble there with real money accounts. All existing US deposits at Full Tilt are expected to be refunded back to players in the immediate future so they can find a different poker website to meet their online poker needs. Currently, Sportsbook Poker seems to be one of the leading choices for Americans.

Kevin Smith, a project manager at the website MyPokerBasics, claims that mixed reactions are being expressed by their members when it comes to the events that have transpired over the last several days. "Sure, our readers are thrilled to hear that they'll be getting their money back from Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars, but they're still pretty upset that two of their favorite poker websites are no longer available. So far everyone has been pleased with the service they've received at Sportsbook Poker but the entire ordeal still leaves a sour taste in their mouths."

When asked why MyPokerBasics was recommending the website Sportsbook Poker, Smith stated that it was an easy staff pick because of the way that the government is suddenly becoming much more aggressive over the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act. While many poker rooms in the past have designed aggressive marketing campaigns towards US citizens and tried to come up with creative ways to bypass this country's laws, Sportsbook has taken a much more conservative approach.

It's kind of funny," replied Smith when asked about Sportsbook Poker's newfound popularity among American betters, "because this company has never really advertised in the US or tried to challenge the UIGEA. They simply stated that they were in full compliance with US laws and they'd welcome any new members...this was while PokerStars and the other websites spent upwards of a million dollars a week on reaching the American public. Now here we are...no more huge poker sites targeting the US with unlimited money, and people are saying that Sportsbook Poker is the best site they've ever played at."

MyPokerBasics also reports that the websites Players Only and Lock Poker have also seen a huge increase in their clientele since the poker shutdown last Friday and so far the initial feedback seems to be largely positive. The main difference between these three online poker rooms and playing at places like Full Tilt is the variety of nationalities present; Sportsbook Poker and Players Only already have a well established presence in the European market.

When asked if he felt that the government would eventually shut down websites like Sportsbook Poker as well, Smith replied, "It seems like the key to avoiding the wrath of the US government (when it comes to poker sites) is to comply with the UIGEA and stay away from the US banks. We honestly can't say what will happen in the future with the new legislation in Congress, but for now there are still some great poker options out there."
