Western New York Local Restaurant Week Kicks Off
Restaurants from Buffalo to Rochester Band Together for Week-Long Event
Western New York March 28th - April 3rd.
Independent Restaurants throughout Western New York have kicked off a week long event whose purpose is to celebrate the important and vital role they play in establishing the unique regional identity of the Niagara Frontier.
Western New York Local Restaurant Week features over 200 locally-owned, independent restaurants offering special dining deals for $21.11 from Monday March 28th to April 3rd.
There are two main restaurant directories; one for Buffalo restaurants and one for Rochester restaurants, all bundled together on a common web platform that provides a dramatic portrayal of Western New York's vibrant food industry.
"So often we talk about the high quality of life experienced in our area," Local Restaurant Week founder and restaurant owner Chef Mike Andrezjewski of Sea Bar in Buffalo said. "Our restaurant community is strong and vibrant. We do not play second fiddle to any of the institutions that Western New Yorkers regard with esteem and affection. In many cases, the local independent restaurant is the starting point of the discussions of our regional identity."
To that end, Local Restaurant Week was developed in a collaborative effort by various entities in the local foodservice industry, including the Western New York Chapter of the Restaurant Association and Food Service Enablers, a leading technology provider to the industry.
"We began in the financial crisis and were mainly interested in helping to fill seats," Peter Longo of the Restaurant Association said. "But now in it's third year, Local Restaurant Week is not about price points or bargain deals. It's really about drawing the distinction between locally owned businesses and chains and putting the focus on the local business as a cultural asset to our area."
