Burren Smokehouse Ltd Recalls a Batch of Smoked Salmon Due to the Presence of Low Levels of Listeria monocytogenes

Burren Smokehouse Ltd, Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare is recalling one batch of smoked salmon due to the presence of low levels of Listeria monocytogenes.  The recalled batch is 1010x, no other batches are implicated, to date. Burren Smokehouse has phoned all its direct customers to inform them. Retailers who have received the implicated batch are requested to display in-store notices to inform consumers.
A very low level of this pathogen was detected in the smoked salmon ten days and twenty-one days after smoking. However, there is a potential small risk that the bacteria could grow to harmful levels by the end of its shelf-life, particularly if incorrectly stored.  Listeriosis is serious and can be life threatening for vulnerable individuals. Specific segments of the population would be deemed at particular risk including pregnant women, the elderly and people with impaired immune functions.
