State officials recognized by the Michigan FFA for support of agriculture and future leaders
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan FFA Association recognized Attorney General Bill Schuette, Representative Kevin Daley (R-Attica) and Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) Director Keith Creagh for their strong support of the agriculture industry and the state’s future leaders.
The honorees were recognized at a reception in the state Capitol rotunda, where more than 200 FFA delegates gathered. The association held its 83rd State FFA Convention on the campus of Michigan State University.
”Michigan’s multi-billion dollar agriculture industry plays a crucial role in our state's economy. As we work to reinvent Michigan, I'm confident the next generation of agricultural leaders will achieve even greater innovation and success," said Schuette.
"It is my privilege to be acknowledged by this organization that was such a big part of my life," Daley said. "As a young adult, I never thought I would one day be here as a legislator and chair of the House Agriculture committee. These students are the key to the future of agriculture in Michigan, and the knowledge, optimism and leadership skills FFA teaches will carry them far throughout their lives."
“I am honored to receive this recognition from an organization so dedicated to developing our future leaders that will help reinvent our state,” said Creagh. “I’m continually amazed by the quality of agri-science students and the leadership skills of Michigan’s FFA members – they are truly the leaders of tomorrow. Michigan’s food and agriculture industry has a very bright future.”
The Michigan FFA consists of more than 5,500 members from 108 active chapters. FFA is a diverse organization, operating in rural, urban and suburban schools. Its membership has increased in Michigan five out of the last six years.
