IBERDROLA, CHOSEN BY THE INSTITUTIONAL INVESTOR TO BE EUROPE'S BEST UTILITY AND THE LEADING SPANISH COMPANY

IBERDROLA has been chosen by the Institutional Investor Research Group to be the best European utility of the year and the leading company in Spain. It has also been considered by the institution to be among the top five companies on the European continent.

This is reflected in the results of the 2011 All-Europe Executive Team ranking drawn up by the Institutional Investor on the basis of surveys completed by over 1,200 sell-side analysts in 150 bodies and 800 buy-side analysts in a further 435 bodies.

IBERDROLA RENOVABLES shares the leading position along with IBERDROLA as the leading company in Spain, with the same score as Banco Santander. It was selected as the leading company in Europe in the renewable energies sector, in the first year that this category has been included in the study.  

In the Best Chief Executives category, the Chairman of IBERDROLA, Ignacio Galán, was chosen by the sell-side analysts that completed the survey as the best CEO of the European utilities. The Chief Executive Officer of IBERDROLA RENOVABLES, Xabier Viteri, was chosen as the best chief executive in his sector in Europe - by both the buy- and sell-side analysts.

As part of the financial team classification, the analysts that were consulted in drawing up the  2011 All-Europe Executive Team ranking pointed to IBERDROLA's Economic-Financial Director, José Sainz Armada, as the best in Europe in the utilities sector, by both the buy- and sell-side analysts. The same position is held by the Economic-Financial Director of IBERDROLA RENOVABLES, José Ángel Marra, for the sell-side analysts in the ranking of renewable energies companies.   

The buy-side analysts also selected IBERDROLA's Investor Relations Division, headed by Ignacio Cuenca, as the best among the European utilities. The same recognition was given by the sell-side analysts to his counterpart in IBERDROLA RENOVABLES, Roberto Fernández.

The Institutional Investor has acknowledged the project for growth carried out by IBERDROLA over the last 10 years and the good management by its team of directors, which has enabled the company to become the leading energy group nationwide and the world leader in wind energy, as well as being placed among the top five electrical utilities worldwide in terms of stock market capitalisation.

About the ‘2011 All-Europe Executive Team’ ranking

The All-Europe Executive Team ranking, which is drawn up on an annual basis by the renowned Institutional Investor Research Group, this year collected the opinions of over 800 buy-side analysts in 435 bodies and over 1,200 sell-side analysts from 150 institutions.

Participants in the survey, which was carried out on this occasion between September and December of 2010, voted for the best CEOs, financial directors and investor relations departments in each sector. The sell- and buy-side analysts propose four candidates in each area, in other of preference.

The report considers eight major sectors: commodities, consumption, energy, financial institutions, industrial, pharmaceutical & healthcare and technology, media and telecommunications. The energy sector, in turn, is divided into three subsectors: oil and gas production and exploration, utilities and renewable energies, which was included for the first time in this year's ranking.
