Local Surgeon Pioneers Adipose Derived Stem Cell Technology For Regenerative Surgery

Dr. Jeffrey Hartog of The Adrecyte Regenerative Medicine and Surgery Center is the first surgeon in Central Florida to use a form of ADRC therapy for breast reconstruction and other fat grafting surgeries.

ORLANDO, FL--- Dr. Jeffrey Hartog is one of the first surgeons to recognize the value of Adipose Derived stem cell technology in Aesthetic procedures in Orlando. Hartog opened the first multi-disciplinary regenerative medicine facility, in Central Florida to "provide state-of-the-art therapies based primarily on Adipose Derived Regenerative Cells (ADRC) that are present in fat removed by liposuction," explains Dr. Hartog. While ADRC therapy is under review by the FDA, Dr. Hartog is still seeing the benefits of these fat derived regenerative cells in currently approved fat grafting procedures for breast reconstruction and other fat grafting surgeries.

Adipose Derived Regenerative Cell (ADRC) therapy has already been approved in Europe for regenerative therapies and holds promise for treatment of radiation wounds and other poorly healing wounds, as well as potential cardiac uses in the future. Dr. Hartog sees great potential in harvesting the body's own fat tissue to extract valuable stem cells. Fat tissue is "the richest source of these cells in the human body, richer even than bone marrow. One of the main benefits of using an individual's own ADRC's is that the risks associated with using tissue from someone else are eliminated, and the controversies associated with fetal stem cells are avoided".

Dr. Hartog's passion for ARDC stems from his philosophy that the " goal of Regenerative Medicine is to harness and focus the body's own natural healing and regenerative cell mechanisms to restore the structure and function of damaged tissues and organs, and to find ways to improve previously untreatable injuries and diseases." His vision for ARDC took Dr. Hartog to La Jolla, CA to the First Annual Clinical Meeting of Cell Society February 18-19 where world leaders from plastic surgery, regenerative medicine, neurology, urology, ophthalmology, cardiology, dermatology, and related disciplines will gather to discuss the research and future of adult stem cell therapies around the world (cellsociety.org).
