Four Enforcement Orders Served in February

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today reported that four Closure Orders were served on food businesses during the month of February for breaches in food safety legislation, pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998.  The Enforcement Orders were issued by environmental health officers (EHOs) in the HSE Dublin Mid Leinster Region and the HSE West Region.   

Closure Orders were served on:
• Lucky Palace restaurant, 3 Meehan House, James Fintan Lalor Ave, Portlaoise, Laois
• Row Inn Row Chinese Restaurant, Count John's, The Bawn, Athlone, Westmeath
• Friar Tucks take-away, Main Street, Killadysert, Clare
• Premises occupied by Amin Akhaler, 34 Clanbrassil Street Lower, Dublin 8

A successful prosecution was also carried out by the HSE West Region on China Tower Letterkenny Ltd, Port Road, Letterkenny, Donegal.

Commenting on these latest Enforcement Orders, Prof Alan Reilly, Chief Executive, FSAI, stated that it is disappointing that this month it was necessary for four Closure Orders to be served and he warned that poor food safety and hygiene practices will not be tolerated and that the FSAI will continue to ensure that high food safety standards are maintained. 

    “Our number one priority is the protection of consumer health and we are a resource to assist food businesses comply with the necessary standards and legal obligation in this area.  We encourage food businesses to visit our website, as it is a comprehensive source of information on every aspect of food safety, food hygiene management and food legislation.  We also operate an advice line that food businesses can contact with any queries they may have in relation to food safety.  The vast majority of Enforcement Orders are easily preventable if food businesses commit to ensuring high food safety hygiene standards at all times.”

Details of the food businesses served with these Enforcement Orders are published on the FSAI’s website.  Closure Orders and Improvement Orders will remain listed on the website for a period of three months from the date of when a premises is adjudged to have corrected its food safety issue, with Prohibition Orders being listed for a period of one month.
