Hacker's Guide Announces 2011 Award Winning Courses for Wisconsin

(Minneapolis, MN) -The Hacker's Guide, a Minneapolis-based golf course rating organization and publisher of multiple regional rating guides, has just announced the 2011 "Top 20 Wisconsin Golf Courses, from the perspective of "the average golfer."

In the opinion of Hacker's Guide raters, these are best Wisconsin golf courses. "We affectionately refer to them as the "Bogey Awards," explains Senior Editor E. Nolan. "Not to suggest they're anything less of an achievement, or honor, than the awards presented by other golf publications. Far from that. The association is simply more realistic. Our audience is the "bogey golfer." (78% of all golfers in America) It's important to note that a "bogey golfer" can play and would love all of these courses."

"We're very excited to announce the winners of our 2011 Awards for Wisconsin," stated publisher Bruce Stasch. "Wisconsin really knows how cater to average golfers and has many impressive examples of well-managed golf courses that offer exceptional value." The list of all course winners can be found at: www.hackerscentralonline.com/winners

The Top Wisconsin Courses, as listed below, demonstrated excellence in catering to the needs of average golfers ("hackers") across the state:

Washington County (Hartford) Castle Course @ Northern Bay (Arkdale)
Lawsonia - Links (Green Lake) Whispering Springs (Fond du Lac)
Trappers Turn (Wisconsin Dells) The Bull at Pinehurst Farms (Sheboygan Falls)
Trempealeau Mountain (Trempealeau) Troy Burne (Hudson)
Lawsonia - Woodlands (Green Lake) Grand Geneva - Highlands (Lake Geneva)
Geneva National - Player (Lake Geneva) University Ridge (Verona)
Grand Geneva - Brute (Lake Geneva) Legend at Bergamont (Oregon)
Kettle Hills - Ponds/Woods (Richfield) SentryWorld (Stevens Point)
Rock River Hills (Horicon) Wild Ridge - Championship (Eau Claire)
Rolling Meadows (Fond du Lac) St. Germain (St. Germain)

The Hacker's Guide, founded in 2008, rates a golf course on 60 different factors in 6 different categories, taking into account how the average golfer would experience each course. For Wisconsin, members of Team Hacker (41 certified course reviewers) were assigned to rate area courses. 82% of Wisconsin's 274 public 18-hole golf courses were reviewed/rated in 2010.

The rating system assesses each course on these 6 primary categories:
Conditions - Playing Conditions, "Green" & Clean, Above & Beyond.
Hospitality - Guest Services, Amenities, The Experience.
Playability - Course Design, Level of Difficulty, Carts, Scorecards & Signage.
Facilities - Tee Time Arrangements, Instruction, and Course Accessibility.
Value - Actual Costs, Fun Factor, Absolute Value.
Forward Score - Level Which Courses Acommodate from the Forward tees.

This sophisticated rating system compares each and every course on the exact same scale. No preference is given to reputation, accolades or green fee "insinuations." (A 900+ point course would be the equivalent to Golf Digest's 4.5 Star Rating. 950+ would be 5 Stars.) But the Hacker's Guide takes the rating process one step further than other national golf publications do. Each course also receives a 400-word review providing readers detailed insight into the experience at each course. Over 500 MN, WI, IA and Dakota courses can be viewed at: www.HackersCentralOnline.com

Hopefully the recognized courses will display their awards and/or reviews and those who golf there will report back their own verdicts. These awards are, after all, for and from the community of golfers represented by the Hacker's Guide. A golfer's opinion is not only welcomed on the Hacker's Central site, it is greatly appreciated! We want to congratulate all the Hacker's Guide 2011 WI winners.

About the Hacker's Guide
The Hacker's GuideTM is the first complete state-by-state golf course rating system since the United States Golf Association established par and slope ratings. In 2009, Hacker's Central (www.hackerscentralonline.com) was launched to bring golfers electronic access to its reviews online as well as blogs, local news, scores and a multi-state golf coupon center (launching April, 2011). The Hacker's Guide has now rated over 500 golf courses across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota.
