NDA Reminds of Time Changes and Approaching Registration Deadline for Governor's Ag Conference

(LINCOLN) - Greg Ibach, Director of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA), would like to remind Nebraskans about the approaching 23rd Annual Governor's Ag Conference.

The Conference is scheduled for March 1-2, 2010 and will be held at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center in Kearney.

"Each year we have listened to the recommendations of the Conference goers, and this year is no exception. We would like to remind our participants that this year's Conference will begin earlier, at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. and we will conclude the Conference earlier, around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday. We are hopeful that this new time frame will allow easier travel for attendees," said Ibach.

Speakers at this year's Conference include: fifth generation ranchers, Troy and Stacy Hadrick of Advocates for Agriculture, who will bring a common sense approach to the discussion of animal agriculture. Dale Moore of Policy Directions based in Washington, DC, who will discuss designing a new Farm Bill in the current economic and federal budgetary climate. Jason Henderson of the Omaha Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City will provide an update on the regional economy and agriculture's role in the economy in the past, present, and future. Dr. Brad Lubben with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will discuss regulatory issues and their potential impact on agriculture and the economy, including a review of recent cap and trade legislation.

Ibach reminded the public that NDA is still accepting registrations to the Conference. Those interested in attending can register by calling NDA toll-free at (800) 831-0550 or by going on-line at www.agr.ne.gov. The registration deadline is February 21.

The Conference is open to anyone interested in learning more about the issues facing Nebraska agriculture. An $80 registration fee covers participation at the entire Conference. More information, including the schedule, is available at www.agr.ne.gov.
