Gwalior, 30 November, 2010: Today Rabbani School in Madhya Pradesh's Susera Village celebrated completion of an infrastructure expansion project to improve its students learning environment. Cargill had funded the expansion project that included construction and furnishing of six additional classrooms and sanitary facilities as well as provision of a new school bus.

The improvements enable the children from adjoining villages, particularly girls, to get to the school and to benefit from a quality education in safe, hygienic and comfortable surroundings. The project is executed in partnership with ASED, a Geneva based developmental organization.

Rabbani School is a center for education and practical training in agricultural practices and animal farming. Established in 1969, it serves around 400 students. The school also supports community development through literacy programs and community health initiatives.

The new facilities were inaugurated today by Smt. Prema Devi Ram Varan Singh Gurjar, Chairperson of Zila Parishad, Gwalior together with Ishteyaque Amjad, Director Corporate Affairs for Cargill India, Andrea Siclari, Director Operations of ASED, as well as the teachers and students of Rabbani School.

"We want to help to nourish India's people and possibilities through programs that improve nutrition, health, education and livelihoods. Our goal is to bring measurable improvements to the communities where we live and work," said Amjad. "We hope that our support to Rabbani School will help the education and skill development of underprivileged children in rural areas."

"The Rabbani School project is a perfect example of successful partnership to uplift the community in which they operate," said Siclari. "There is a quality crisis in education in India. The solution does not lie in inputs alone, but also in ensuring proper infrastructural facilities as lack of these is often the reason for dropouts."
